Saturday I had the privilege of staying close to home and photographing Jake and Faith’s intimate wedding day. It seems the theme of this year’s wedding season is rain on your big day! I’ve come to not worry and have turned my attention to making sure our couples know that we can still create some beautiful images, rain and all! Give us a clear umbrella and a great attitude and there isn’t much that we’ll have to sacrifice (except maybe dry hair)
Their morning was dry and full of giggles from the bridal suite and the guys doing what guys do best. The bride and grooms mother’s reminisced on the good old days and when it was time, helped Faith slip into her gorgeous bridal gown. Faith’s bridal party, 10 of the most beautiful and kindhearted girls I’ve ever met, waited on her hand and foot.
With rain imminent, we moved quickly as we captured the separate bridal parties. Jake and Faith decided to forgo a first look so we anxiously awaited the moment Jake would see his bride walk down the aisle! That time quickly came and I could help but be thankful for their decision. Jake’s eyes welled up with tears and Faith struggled to hold a smile and she glided down the center aisle. Their handwritten vows talked of loving through the good and the bad. Giving up themselves for one another and to the Lord. The ceremony was sealed with the traditional kiss and there still had only been a drizzle of rain. As Faith recessed into the lobby of the church she commented on how it hadn’t rain and couldn’t believe it. I remember just smiling and saying that there is Jesus! I loved how enthusiastically she agreed!
Just as we began portraits of the whole bridal party the clouds rolled in and within 5 minutes there was a steady cold rain. There was a decision to make, wait for a break in the weather or shoot through it. As you can see below, the new Mr. and Mrs. Wilson fought through it and created some of my favorite wedding portraits to date. The couple and their guests danced the night away as the rain fell outside! It was a beautiful day, rain and all! Z
